Everyone has their own interoceptive and emotional experience which is correct and valid so our Emotional Inventory Kit explores this with your child in an affirming way. We want your children to be able to trust their body, trust their experience and know that what they are feeling matters.

Watch and follow our OTs as they guide you through a workbook exploring body clues and pairing them with emotion words that make sense for your child. You will identify different regulation tools to use depending on which body clues your child notices and the emotion they might be experiencing.

The kit introduces you to two beneficial regulation strategies, supporting bigger emotions like frustration or anger or more internalised emotions such as anxiety. Through the activities, you will gain valuable insights into your child’s ability to articulate their experiences and the support they need in recognising their body clues so they can respond adaptively.

Activities - Approximately 1 hour activity time

    • Emotional Pizza - 30 minutes

      • Designed by our Occupational Therapists, the workbook called, The Emotional Pizza, helps you and your children identify body clues that they may notice, and pair it with an emotion word which they can use to communicate how they feel. Body clues inform our emotions, so with an increased understanding, your children will be able to engage in the tools they may need to regulate. Pick from a range of visuals in the workbook to individualise their strategies and develop their ‘émotional inventory’.

    • Bubble Mountain  - 15 minutes

      • A favourite activity for many children, this interactive, playful and enjoyable bubble blowing activity helps them learn about controlling their breath, particularly how longer, slower breaths out, can calm us down.

    • The Shred Box  - 15 minutes

      • Your children will personalise their Shred Box using the box and materials from the kit to create a safe resource they can access to express their frustration and bigger emotions. We want children to be able to express how they feel safely and effectively, instead of internalising it, resulting in difficulties at another time. Join them in creating and using this resource, where they will also benefit from the added co-regulation your safe and trusting presence provides.
