Our gross motor skills kit is playful, relatable and active, engaging the kids purposefully, and using their familiarity and interest in animals or movies to support them. Gross motor skills are important abilities that can help someone be independent in their life. If a person has difficulty with their gross motor skills, it may be observed in clumsiness, low body awareness, low strength or endurance or a reluctance to participate in activities requiring whole body coordination.

Watch and follow our OTs as they explain and coach you through a range of movement based obstacle courses and challenges. Your children will enjoy the autonomy in setting up and preparing the obstacle course and creatively using additional objects from home. Help your children in organising their movements, through modelling and coaching or applying the modifications learnt from our occupational therapists.

    • Age
      4-10 year olds

      • Some children will need assistance when cutting out some of the cards in the kit. Since cutting accurately is not a focus of this kit, it is ok that they may not be cutting on the lines. Participation is valid in many ways and if your children are regulated why cutting, it gives them an opportunity to practise, even if they are not accurate.

Activities - Approximately 55 minutes activity time

      • Animal Racing Game - 20 minutes

        • This game involves walking like a range of different animals, all which require a different movement pattern and way to coordinate the body. From crawling, crab walking to slithering like a snake, your child will explore different movements as they playfully pretend to be different animals.

      • How High Can You Jump? - 15 minutes

        • Develop jumping and strength in this activity, while jumping high like a kangaroo. This activity encourages your child to strive for their best, working on determination and resilience while also coordinating jumping movement.

      • Animal Crossing - 20 minutes

        • This activity will be working on skills such as balance, strength, endurance and coordination through creating an obstacle course using everyday items. When completing this obstacle course, using the visuals provided for assistance, it will also provide a good indication of how easy or difficult your child finds these skills and where they may need extra support and practice.
