The school readiness kit uses craft activities while focusing on teaching children about whole body learning, validating differences and growth mindset. Watch and follow our OTs as they guide you through learning styles, strengths based bracelet making, communication strategies and a playful morning routine, all while developing underlying motor and participation skills for school. Through the activities, you will gain valuable insights into your child’s learning needs and preferences while our informative parent videos will help you in communicating to their school about how they can be best supported.
SCHOOL READINESS KIT
Age
4 -7 year olds-
The content within this kit is targeted for children beginning school, but if you would like to help your child develop insights into their learning needs and preferences, and also develop their self advocacy and help seeking skills, then this kit will also benefit them!
Four Activities - Approximately 2 hours activity time-
Animal Learning Styles - 20 Minutes
-
Every child learns in a different way and all children have different needs in the classroom. We want to educate children about being whole body learners so that they become aware of their own learning styles and what helps them focus! In the classroom, whole body listening has been encouraged extensively over time - however, with new research and based on lived experiences, we now know that this is not a ‘one size fits all’ for learning and there are many styles, all equally valid and important!

Strength Bracelet - 30 Minutes
-
During this activity we will be familiarising your child with the letters in their name and a positive attribute of their own. By acknowledging their personal qualities, this will improve their self-concept and self-efficacy, so they can feel empowered in their learning. They will use the letter beads provided to copy their attribute and thread their bracelet, creating an affirming item that reminds them of a strength.

-
Communication Cards - 30 Minutes
-
We focus on developing your child’s ability to self advocate and access help in class if they need. This can be extremely challenging for children who may not have the confidence to approach their teachers, or articulate what they are wanting support with. By creating communication cards, we will encourage them to understand their needs and how they can have their needs met with the help of the teachers at school.

Morning Routine Dice - 40 Minutes
-
Having a smooth, autonomous and regulated morning routine will largely impact your child’s regulation for the rest of the day. When children are feeling more regulated, they will be more resilient and more successful throughout the busy school day. If your child does not yet have the adequate skills to complete the morning routine it can become a stressful start to the day and set them up for an emotionally challenging school day. Our goal in the school readiness kit is to assist with skill building for organisation and regulation in a fun, interactive way. This is why a dice, with sides representing some morning routine tasks is created, to playfully practise these skills outside of the morning hours so that they can feel prepared and ready to try these tasks when the time comes.
